Power Cycle

Modem: Power cycling the modem or pulling the power and letting it sit for 30 seconds before plugging it back in, accomplishes several things.  It resets the connection to the network and forces the connection to be re-established.  It also causes the electronics and software in the modem to reload.

Personal Devices:   Just as a modem has hardware and software that needs reset from time to time, your personal devices such as computers, tablets, smartphones, etc., all can benefit from being shut down completely and started back up, so the software loads fresh.

Verify cords are all securely connected

Phone:  Pull the cord out of the modem and jack, then re-seat it back in the modem and wall jack to ensure you have a good connection.  Swapping cable ends is a good practice.

Power: Verify that it is plugged in to a working outlet, has a tight connection both to the wall receptacle and to the modem Power jack.

Ethernet: Disconnect from the modem/router and device. Re-seat connections, this is a good time to swap ends of the cable.


Modem: needs to be unfiltered or using a filter splitter if the jack is shared with a telephone.

Phones: All phones need a filter.  Filters are available from the InterBel Business Office.  Install filters directly to the wall jack with the line cord coming out of the filter.

Other Devices:  Any device that connects to your phone line up to and including fax machines, alarm systems, etc., require a filter.   

Note: Filtering can be done at the outside NID, where your service comes into your home.  When this is the case, our technicians will inform you that filters are no longer needed or if they are only needed in specific locations.

 DSL Light

Blinking:  The modem is not connecting back to the network.  Most common causes of this are wiring issues, filtering issues or device failure.

Solid: Indicates the modem has a connection back to the InterBel network.

Wi-Fi Configuration

The Comtrend VR-3060 modem is a Dual Band Wireless AC device.  This means it broadcasts two separate wireless networks offering speeds up to 1600 Mbps.

Below is instruction on how to configure both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands with your own custom Names and Wireless Encryption.

To start you will need to access the modems web interface.  You can do that simply by opening your favorite web browser (Chrome/Edge/Safari) and typing in in the address bar as seen in the image below:

You will be prompted for a username and password.  The username and password to access the web interface is user/user.

This will bring you to the home page for the web interface.

To begin, click on basic setup at the top of the screen.  This will load options for you in the menu on the left.  Select Wireless from the menu and you will be automatically taken to the 5 GHz configuration page.

On this page you can change a few settings.  You can enable or disable the 5 GHz radio, enable or disable the Wi-Fi button and change the SSID (this is your wireless network name that appears when you look for wireless networks). Make sure to apply your settings after any changes you make.

If you elect to change the SSID, please realize that if you factory reset your device, these settings will need to be reconfigured.

Next we will look at the Security section located underneath the 5 GHz item in the left menu.  To change the wireless encryption (password) of your router, look at the WPA/WPI section of the window. 

You will notice this is bulleted out to protect visibility to the password.  Simply erase the password, retype your new password and apply the changes.

This will complete setting up the 5 GHz radio with your custom settings.  The process is exactly the same for the 2.4 GHz radio as well.  Below are a couple of screenshots showing the menus for 2.4 GHz configuration.
