Capital credits represent each member’s ownership of the cooperative. They are the margins credited (or allocated) to the members of the cooperative based on their purchases from the cooperative the previous year. These margins are used by the cooperative as capital to operate the business and continue to upgrade services. On an annual basis and finance’s permit, InterBel’s Board of Directors chooses to return capital credits in the form of capital credit retirement checks. InterBel maintains a record of all current or former members who may have an outstanding (non-cashed) capital credit retirement checks.
